Organic Cucumber Selfie Seeds

These seeds were hand cultivated from a cucumber plant we have continued to Selfie in our Garden year after year. They are non-GMO and grown using Jobe's 4-4-4 Blend.

Below, we've included some essential care tips to help you nurture your cucumber plants to their full potential.

1. Soil Type: Cucumbers thrive in well-draining, fertile soil with a pH range of 6.0 to 7.0. Incorporate organic matter into the soil, such as compost or well-rotted manure, to enhance soil fertility and water retention.

2. Sunlight Requirements: Cucumbers are sun-loving plants and require at least 8 hours of direct sunlight daily for optimum growth and fruit production. Choose a sunny location for planting or provide ample sunlight if growing indoors.

3. Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist but avoid waterlogging. Cucumbers have shallow roots and need regular watering, especially during hot weather. Water the plants at the base to prevent splashing on leaves, which can lead to fungal diseases.

4. Temperature and Climate: Cucumbers thrive in warm temperatures between 70°F to 90°F (21°C to 32°C). They are sensitive to frost, so avoid planting them outdoors until the danger of frost has passed. If the temperature drops significantly, consider using protective covers or bring potted plants indoors.

5. Humidity: Cucumbers appreciate higher humidity levels, preferably around 60% to 70%. If you live in a dry climate, you can increase humidity around the plants by mulching the soil and providing a humidifying tray nearby.

6. Trellising or Support: Consider using trellises or stakes to support cucumber vines as they grow. Vertical growth not only saves space but also promotes better air circulation, reducing the risk of diseases and providing straighter, more evenly-shaped cucumbers.

7. Fertilization: Cucumbers are heavy feeders and require regular fertilization. Use a balanced organic fertilizer or compost tea every two to three weeks to provide essential nutrients for vigorous growth and a bountiful harvest.

8. Pollination: Cucumbers require pollination for fruit development. If you notice a lack of bees or other pollinators in your area, you can hand-pollinate cucumber flowers by transferring pollen from male flowers to female flowers using a small brush or cotton swab.

9. Pests and Diseases: Keep an eye out for common cucumber pests like cucumber beetles and aphids. Regularly inspect your plants and consider using natural pest control methods to protect them. Additionally, provide adequate spacing between plants for better air circulation and prevent the spread of diseases.

10. Harvesting: Harvest cucumbers when they reach the desired size, usually between 6 to 8 inches in length. Regularly picking mature cucumbers encourages the plant to produce more fruits. Use a sharp knife or scissors to cut the cucumber from the vine to avoid damaging the plant.
